On January 18th, 2017, at KSTU. Razzakova, the Kyrgyz Ministries of Education, and Transportation and the Accreditation Committee held a roundtable discussion of the project "Establishment of the Kyrgyz doctoral school". The project is supported by Volkswagen. Experts from Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg (Germany) and the rectors KSNU BAFE, as well as members of the Certification Commission WAC have attended this event. GTS participated in the event and outlined GTS' opportunities to promote the Bologna system of education in the Kyrgyz Republic, for the creation of a doctoral school.
On January 16th, 2017, Turkish Airlines Flight 6491, a scheduled cargo flight operated by ACT Airlines, hit the ground in thick fog on approach to Manas International Airport near Bishkek. At least 37 people were killed, including all four of the crew and 33 residents of Dacha-Suu, a village west of the airport. At least fifteen people on the ground were injured.
